Locosys Genie GT-31 GPS Receiver By Mark Nelson The Locosys Genie GT-31 is a small, light hand held GPS receiver and data logger. It can be used as a basic data logger but will also record routes and tracks as well as way points. It has a build in rechargeable battery that, according to the manufacturer will last for over 40 hours of use if the power saving mode is used. The Genie GT-31 has a number of uses. If you take a lot of digital photos you can use the position mark feature to record the position you take them in. There are also a number of features that display information about you current journey such as distance covered, time taken, speed, average speed, top speed and more which make the GT-31 an ideal accessory if you are a keen walker or cyclist. It can also be used as an electronic compass but for the navigation features to work best you need to be moving. The data logger feature is ideal for collecting data for the Open Street Map project. The log data and all other information can be downloaded to a PC in several different formats such as KML for importing into Google Earth and GPX for use with Open Street Map. For more advanced users the GT-31 can be directly connected to a laptop for use as a real-time GPS receiver. This is simple enough for the novice to use but, if you are willing to learn about all the features is also powerful enough to keep more advanced users happy.
